Our Whakapapa

Te Kotahi a Tāmaki was born from the vision of unity and collective impact. Named by local kaumātua of Tāmaki Makaurau, our journey began with a kōrero at Manurewa Marae among five marae. Together, we explored the idea of a Māori marae profile booklet, which led to the formation of a steering group and a kaumātua taumata to guide the process.

On 13 January 2018, our organisation was accepted as a representative cultural-collective by marae, and we became a Charitable Trust on 26 March 2021. Our mission is to reinforce marae as centres of cultural excellence and enterprise, fostering skills, knowledge, and relationships to create opportunities and transformational change for whānau, hapū, and iwi.
